THE DETACHMENTS

Arty London types use amp overdrive and late 70s-inspired drums to create one gloriously gruesome noise. James Ford, Artic Monkeys’ continuous choice of knob fiddling, is currently on part time production duties for their upcoming debut LP. So prepare for vast aural areas of ambience, and that same cold, unknowing feeling you’d feel deep in a cave of new wave. Detachments are no doubt indebted to Psychedelic Furs and most notably Joy Division, but their music is much more believable and they have a heart, pumping like the bass drum, to the heart of every song. Far less polished than White Lies, yet far more listenable than say, also-noise makers S.C.U.M. Peter Hook seems to agree to, as he’s about to play a gig with them. There’s also quite a lot of Depeche Mode in the mix too, the bass guitar often making a funky groove, especially on ‘Fear No Fear’. We have an exclusive remix of their recent single ‘Circles’ for you to pinch from Converse Music’s downloads section now. The atmospheric, synth driven war cry of a song, just short enough to fit on a 7”, this is a dark-wave indie band, morphing into anti-glam disco. It’s the sound of madness, the kind of madness though, which is damn infectious.
