There are many things at Christmas you can guarantee…debates over the Christmas No.1, A LOT of food, drink and xmas parties, streets buzzing with frantic Christmas shoppers and endless bands, big and small releasing their Christmas tunes.  In the Converse Music inbox we have been wash with with Christmas releases big and small including ‘rage against the machine for xmas number 1′, Hunks + Friends ‘The Magic of Christmas’ (proceeds of which go to the RSPCA), Julian Casablanca and Rolf Harris with Status Quo (hilarious video!)…the list just goes on and on.

But there was one band we wanted to give a special mention and that is Slow Club and their EP ‘Christmas Thanks For Nothing’ released Monday 14th December on Moshi Moshi.  Another quintessential piece of work from the Sheffield duo expect their signature melancholy and heartbreaking sounds as Rebecca and Charles take turns recreating two Darlene Love Christmas classics.  Charles delivering a stripped down take on ‘All Alone On Christmas’ – the E Street Band assisted number from ‘Home Alone 2’ – while Rebecca unleashes a full throated rendition of the Phil Spector-penned ‘Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)’.

Last year’s free download single ‘Christmas TV’ proved an unlikely live favourite over the summer, and so as an added like stocking filler appears on the EP alongside brand new tunes ‘Christmas, Thanks For Nothing’ and ‘It’s Christmas and You’re Boring Me’.  ’All alone at Christmas’ is definitely a favourite on the EP and is all the elements you come to expect and love from Slow Club: bittersweet, humorous and intensely lovable.  Amongst all the gift buying we suggest you get it and treat yourself..!!

To follow up from the release on Monday Slow Club will be headlining a very special gig with friends at The Union Chapel on Thursday 17th December.  Get in the festive spirit and head on down
