Delooze began as a collaboration between an enchanting singer-songwriter longing to place her voice in this confusing musical age, with an unusual electronic musician tired of years of unfocussed experimentation. Drawing upon a creative melting pot of influences from David Bowie to Clint Mansell, the result is a wonderful (recorded and live) mixture of modern electronic twists and synths, classical sounds and haunting yet stunning ‘Kate Bush’ esque vocals (courtesy of beautiful lead Stacey Delooze). When you listen to this band expect to be entranced and taking back to a time of witch hunts, magic and mystical forests.  We first stumbled upon Delooze a few weeks ago at an intimate but lively gig in London and they more than pricked up our ears.  With Stacey’s vocals and their quirky melodies ringing in our ears the next day Converse Music were keen to find out more, so we dropped them a line and fired them a few questions to give us and you a better idea of what Delooze are all about and what to expect from them in the future.Converse Music have also lucky enough to get an exclusive track from Delooze over in the download section now, so read on and then give them a listen…

For those out there who may not know you guys – who are Delooze?

DeLooze are a 3 piece band based in London. Stacey sings lead vocals, plays the guitar and synths. Stephen sings backing vocals, plays piano and synths and is in charge of all the bleeps and blobs with his laptop. Robin plays the drums and percussion, a bit of glockenspiel, but NO singing. Ha!

How would you describe your music and work?
It is difficult to sum up who and what we are in just a few words but of course if I had to describe us I would definitely say: we are a 3 piece dark-electro rock band…consisting of moody and epic sounds with a modern backdrop of glitchy beats, morphed samples, warm synths and classical instrumentation, all layered into one. Not so much influenced by modern music as that from the 70’s and 80’s. The energy that the progressive rock/ pop bands used to put across seems somewhat more epic and intense than the more diluted version of what we get nowadays…. A mixture of old and new. A lot of Classic chord progressions played with new sounds but at the same time influenced by contemporary electronic music and post-rock.

if you had to choose an object to ‘capture’ Delooze, what would it be and why?
A Snowstorm/Globe/shaker/dome whatever you call them?! – Eery, delicate and heaven-like, until shaken…We know how to shake up quite a storm! (Fitting for the festive period no?) : )

What is the story behind the name and how you got together?
Quite simple really… as its our singer’s surname. I believe the word translates as “the dwellers by the grove”.

Different genres of music are always coming back into ‘Fashion’ what music are you loving at the moment?
We always love a bit of the oldies.. Fleetwood Mac, Kate Bush, David Bowie… and a lot of classical music from soundtracks. Composers like Clint Mansell, Ennio Morricone and Hans Zimmer’s music inspires us when writing too…All of this as well as wonky hip-hop beats, ambient electronic and modern classical.

What is the Delooze ethos/philosophy when it comes to making and creating music?
To make music that we want to hear just as much as anybody else really. We want to make the best music we are capable of and be satisfied with what we do. We of course hope to share a message that relates to our current state of mind during this fickle climate we live in, but writing music is also an outlet for us too.

What would your ideal venue to play?
Our sound always lends well to a big stage or cave (with appropriate accoustic treatment of course..haha), with a big sound system and even bigger lights… we’ve played our share of the small intimate venues which has been great, but now feel we wanna let off our full force…

So what can we expect from Delooze live?
Expect the unexpected! Lots of dynamics. powerful melodies, dark moods, heavy drums, and enough layers of sound to fill a room.
…best gig to date?
Recent gig in Manchester w/Portugal. The Man. This was special to us as we love their music just as much as our friendship. So when we got asked to support them, that was very exciting.. slightly overwhelming even. As well as this, we played a few shows at 93 feet east on Brick Lane. This always goes down well for some reason. I think just by having a good sound and loads of friends around makes it special.

……music vice?
Heart ache…

…..music pet hate?
Rude promotors and arsey sound engineers. There’s just no need.

What’s the best piece of advice you would give someone whether a person in the street or an upcoming talent? Don’t give up! Only make the music you want to make and try not to get caught up in the fantasy of fame and stardom too much… keep it strong!

What will Delooze be asking Santa for this Christmas?
A happy new decade! Lots of positive energies please..

In August you released a brilliant debut EP ‘Out of The Rabbit Hole’, what can we expect from you in 2010?
At the moment we’re finishing a live recorded music video consisting of 3 tracks (2 of which can be heard on our last EP). This will be available in the new year 2010. We are also set to release 2 singles, which will be out in mid March along with remixs to follow.Of course all this while travelling.  We hope to embark on a UK tour beginning in the Spring. (Dates to be announced)..Also we are hoping to play some festivals.. Glastonbury ’s 40th anniversary perhaps?

And finally tell us something random (or a secret) we don’t know about you guys…
We believe that cheese is gods gift to mankind!

With the release of a 3 track live video recording and a number of exciting live shows in the pipeline, 2010 looks set to be more than promising for Delooze…so we suggest you keep an eye out for them!  If you cant wait for the New Year to see more then make sure you get your exclusive track here and then get down to their last gig of the DECADE at 93 Feet East, London on Saturday 19th December.
